World Turkey Eating Championships Won By 7.5 Stone Woman (Pictures)

World Turkey Eating Championships Held, But You WON'T Believe Who Won

The world has a new turkey eating champion. And she's 5ft 5in tall.

The 2011 Major League Eating-sanctioned Thanksgiving Wild Turkey 81 championships were held in Times Square on Tuesday.

Competitors were charged with eating as much of a 10-pound roast turkey as they could in 10 minutes.

The arrayed pro-eaters demolished wings, breasts and dripping fat with abandon, but the unlikely winner was a woman - Sonya Thomas, aka The Black Widow - whose slight 7.5 stone frame and small height belies her truly monstrous eating abilities.

Thomas ate 5.25 pounds of turkey in 10 minutes, winning the $1,581 prize and just the latest in her string of world gluttony titles.

Eric "Badlands" Booker received $750 for achieving second place, followed by Allen "Shredder" Goldstein in third who won $500.

The Black Widow regularly defeats male competitors in the popular and bizarre world of professional consumption.

In September Thomas consumed 183 chicken wings in 12 minutes, breaking her own world record and defeating American world eating star Joey Chestnut. In July she also became the first Female World Hot Dog Eating Champion by swallowing 40 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Unfortunately the Widow may not have long to enjoy her moment of glory. Six-times world hot dog eating champion Takeru Kobayashi will attempt on Wednesday to break the world turkey eating record at his own event, to be broadcast live online via uStream.

Sponsors Wild Turkey donated 81 turkeys to a New York food bank as part of the Times Square champs, and Major League Eating also made a contribution to charity.

Meanwhile in the UK Michael Doggrel and Lee Palmer shared Somerset's mince pie eating championships by consuming a slightly-less impressive 19 mince pieces each in 10 minutes.
