A former school chaplain has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for a string of sex offences on pupils spanning three decades.

Leslie Carter, 84, from Bathwick Street in Bath, admitted 18 counts of indecent assault on six schoolboys between 1956 and 1978.

Scotland Yard said the "unrepentant paedophile" committed his attacks in the UK and South Africa, as well as on board a ship between the two countries.

Officers said there were "undoubtedly other victims", and urged people to come forward as the elderly man was jailed at Harrow Crown Court. His victims were aged between seven and 14.

Police said one man contacted them in 2004 to report that he had been abused by Carter while he was a pupil at St George's Grammar School in Cape Town, South Africa.

The paedophile persuaded the victim's family to allow him to travel to London and sexually abused the schoolboy during the boat trip to London and when they stayed at his family's house in Sylvan Road, South Norwood, police said.

In March last year, a second victim contacted Quintain Hall School in Harrow to report that he had been sexually abused by Carter while he was a pupil at the school in the Seventies when Carter was a chaplain.

Carter pleaded guilty to nine counts on September 13 and a further nine at the latest hearing.

Detective Constable Rachel Snow, from the Metropolitan Police child abuse investigation team, said: "Carter is an unrepentant paedophile who preyed on any vulnerable child that came in contact with him. He had a particular preference for young boys. There are undoubtedly other victims of Carter's who have not yet come forward.

"I would urge anyone who has been sexually abused by Carter, or anyone else, to make contact with the police. They will be treated with respect and their allegations will be taken seriously."

Three and one half years seems just a little light to me he sentenced his victims to much more than this. If he's sentenced to that short a sentence he'll probably be out in half that. What is the matter with judges?

I think his age and health might have been the consideration.

They probably don't want to have to pay for his nursing home fees out of the prison budget.

I wonder what the Church makes of the verse below taken from the Bible in 1st Corinthians 6:
Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, ...... nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.

Lets call it what it is, "a homosexual peodophile chaplin", the whole homo connectin keeps being downplayed and Joe Bloggs can't even see it.

Most of these chaplains or preists are actually homosexuals. I went to a church where the pastor was an undercover homosexual. He was married with 5 kids, this was a front, he's not allowed unsupervised visitation with his two boys, I wonder why.

I wouldn't trust him with a male dog, he simply has to get his hands on the male members of the church of any age. the police are investigating him now and it won't be too long before hes were he belongs. An unsuspecting mother left her mentally retarded son with him while she popped to the shops, and he had his hands etc all over him. I wonder if this will get past the gate keepers on this board? I'd be amazed if it does.

You'd feel better if he was diddling young girls, like "normal" paedophiles would do...yuh know, men have "needs"?

I'm screaming danger be aware of whats going on around you.

If you do a bit of research you'll find that although homos make up around 1% of the population they make up for around 30% of peodophiles.

When you consider that they are being given the "right" to adopt and foster kids it really is a scary situation. In the UK the first "gay" couple to foster little boys in York were in fact peodos, when one of the mothers of a boy in their "care" complained of some indecent pictures of her son. The social workers brushed her complaint aside as they didn't want to be called homophobic. The gay couple were both jailed a short time later for molesting a string of boys in their "care".

While christian couples who don't agree with teaching their foster kids that being gay is just fine and acceptable are being struck off the foster carers registers.

I'm just pointing at the elephant in the room and calling it as it is. These people need therapy and counselling not promotion and definitely not access to poor little kids.

So he was first reported to police in 2004 . It is a shame that it has taken so long to get any justice for these boys .

It can take a long time for people to realise what happened to them was abuse and then more time to come to terms with it and admit it. I was 16 when I realised what had happened to me as a four year old was not right. I was 18 by the time the anger started to mount, sadly my abuser died of cancer before I was able to confront him. I am 48 and still do not like people getting too close or touching me.

Yes I understand that . I meant it has taken a long time since he first reported that he had been abused to the police . It had already taken him many years to actually be brave enough to report it then another 7 years until he got justice . I also realise that it is difficult for the police to build a case after so many years .

The people he harmed should sue the church now for so much money the church will have to give some back for the first time in many a year.

A sentence of "for the rest of his unnatural life "would have been more appropriate. Would the Judge have been as lenient had one of his relatives been a victim? No doubt the learned gentleman is proud of his `humanity` and sleeps well at night.

Seems far too lenient for a string of offences spanning decades.

Time to abolish the Church. There is absolutely no need for anyone to intercede between the individual and God therefore no need for the Church.
01:51 PM on 11/29/2011
so when we have a teacher who is a pervert we should abolish education then?
