Hain Meets With Police In Relation To Computer Hacking Allegations

Former Northern Ireland secretary Peter Hain has met with police in relation to allegations his computer may have been hacked when he was secretary of state.

A spokesperson for the Labour frontbencher said Charlotte Harris of Mishcon de Reya would act as his lawyer.

“Earlier today Peter Hain met with Metropolitan police officers leading Operation Tuleta regarding an investigation into the alleged hacking of his official and personal computers during his time as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland," read a statement on Wednesday.

"Given the serious and sensitive nature of this on-going investigation, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Shadow Welsh Secretary Hain was Northern Ireland secretary from 2005-2007 and had access to classified information, such as details about informers.

Operation Tuleta is looking into computer hacking separately from Operation Weeting, the phone hacking inquiry.
