Woman Arrested In Connection To Phone Hacking

Police have arrested a former young journalist of the year in connection with their ongoing investigation into phone hacking, Scotland Yard said today.

Bethany Usher, 31, was arrested in Northumbria by detectives from Operation Weeting. She has worked for the News of the World and the People and won young journalist of the year in 2003. She lectures in journalism at Teeside university.

A police spokesman said on Wednesday:

"At 06:35hrs officers arrested the woman on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept voicemail messages, contrary to Section1 (1) Criminal Law Act 1977.

"The woman is now in custody at a police station in Northumbria."

The news comes as the Leveson inquiry continues, with Alastair Campbell set to give evidence on Wednesday.
