Tesco Launches UK's Hottest Cheese

The Fiery Cheddar That’s 50 Times Hotter Than A Jalapeno

If you fancy spicing things up this Christmas, Tesco has just launched the hottest cheese ever sold in Britain.

To give you an idea of what to expect before you start piling it on your crackers, the new cheddar, laced with fiery Scotch Bonnet chilli peppers, is 50 times hotter than a jalapeno.

The spicy cheese even comes with its own health warning, stating that the chilli cheddar is "not for the faint-hearted".

The hottest ever cheese, which will go on sale in 700 Tesco stores, trumps Britain's former spiciest cheese, the Mexicana, which is said to be mild compared to the spicy Scotch Bonnet.

The cheddar cheese with a flaming twist has the heat intensity of 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville units in comparison to a jalapeno, which has a rating of just 2,500 to 8,000.

"This cheese is aimed at the kind of diner who would rather go for a vindaloo than a korma," says Tesco's cheese buyer Asheligh MacFarlane.

"The reason that hot food is now so popular is because our palates have been changing over the last 40 years as we become acclimatised to the wide and varied international cuisine now on offer in the UK," she added.

Scotch Bonnet cheese is available from today and costs £2 for a 250g pack.

Would you be brave enough to try it?
