Phone Hacking: Hugh Grant To Give Evidence To Parliament Injunctions Committee

Actor Hugh Grant is set to renew his assault on shady journalistic practices when he gives evidence to politicians.

The Four Weddings and About A Boy star is giving evidence to the Joint Committee on Privacy and Injunctions.

Comedian Steve Coogan and former F1 boss Max Mosley are also due to speak to the MPs and peers.

Grant made a high-profile appearance before the Leveson inquiry into media ethics last month in which delivered a series of allegations about intrusion.

He suggested the Mail on Sunday may have hacked his voicemail messages to get a story about his conversations with a "plummy-voiced" woman - a claim the newspaper flatly denied.

He also made allegations - again denied - that The Sun invaded his privacy by publishing details of his medical records. He said he had brought between six and 10 libel actions over the past 17 years.

Coogan told Leveson that reporters had been through his rubbish bins, looking for "lurid" details of his private life. The comedian, most famous for playing comedy character Alan Partridge, also denied a tabloid story from 2007 suggesting he took drugs with a US actor.

He insisted that although some people entered a "Faustian pact" with the press, he had never sought fame and was a private person.

Mr Mosley described the impact of an article falsely claiming an orgy he went to was Nazi-themed.

He told the inquiry his son, who has since died, resumed taking drugs as he could not bear having seen the photographs.

there are several issues with this enquiry.
one is why are people like Grant allowed to make claims and allegations without producing any evidence.
secondly but most importantly these unsubstantiated allegations could/will have a serious impact on any future court case involving senior newspaper staff.

one journalist giving evidence claimed Andy Coulson was aware of the hacking and had spoken about it in meetings.
he wasnt asked for any evidence and did not produce any.

his statement and that of others will be seized upon by Barristers at any court case. they will argue that this enquiry has removed the chance of a fair trial.

maybe this was why Cameron set up the enquiry , it will certainly help his friend Rebecca Brookes.

What all of it shows, over and over, it that the Murdoch's are 'unfit' to run their end of things. They have no consistency of character, to back up their Media Enterprise. Stains all over it, with check stubs covering them....all this talk just exposes the public to their worst fears, and gathers encouragement from said public when proper action is finally taken....

It would be poetic justice if the media stopped printing news about celebrities. It could then concentrate on decent news and leave the `celebs` in obscurity.Much, I am sure,to their chagrin and petulant annoyance.

Seriously, who do you think would really be more annoyed? The Politicians, that suddenly have a full-time-Spotlight of exposure on them, as they should? Or the Celebrities that can go into a grocery store without being followed and intruded upon, for every moment of the journey? Celebs are celebs, most often times, because of the value of their work, and the connection it made with the audience. Politicians, nine times out of ten these days, are known mainly for what we find out about them, after they've left office, when it's way too late. That's not an accident.

Look the Leveson investigation is a farce. Mr Leveson is a direcror of "Bank of Israel" don't tell me he has not had contact with the Murdochs either socially or business wise in this capacity!
