X Factor Final: Little Mix Become First Girl Band To Become X Factor Winners

X Factor Final Little Mix

Little Mix have taken their place in pop history, becoming the first girl band to win X Factor.

The band of four, who were mentored by first-time judge Tulisa Contostavlos, beat Marcus Collins in an emotional Sunday night finale to take the title, after a singularly controversial series of the show.

The girls put in consistently strong turns tonight - Don't Let Go (originally by En Vogue), then a soulful rendition of carol Silent Night, and finally their take on the winner's single, Cannonball by Damien Rice.

Marcus Collins was left stranded, with his popularity in Liverpool proving insufficient to take the night out. He put in some energetic efforts - Jackie Wilson's Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher, an inadequate offering of Wham!'s Last Christmas and finally his version of Cannonball.

The judges were positive in their verdicts, but when Tulisa and Kelly Rowland both used the word "beautiful" to describe his final performance just one too many times each, it was clear the writing was on the wall in Little Mix's favour.

Mentor Tulisa got emotional as she saw her girls take the title, and Louis Walsh got emotional when his new hair transplant stayed in place even when he got a wriggle on

I only watched some of the x factor this year an i didn't phone in or vote i never have but i did actually like little mix its nice to finally have another girl band who can actually sing. I've heard the single a few times on the radio now and its quite good even though i still prefer the original cannonball but hope to hear some decent music from them soon.

Happy for the girls getting their moment but they will release one song and fade away just like with every other act that wins X Factor. Same music, different name. I'm surprised it's still on television when the ratings have done so poorly this year.

Congratulations on Little Mix becoming the first group to win the X Factor. As for Marcus Collins he can take comfort from the success that previous runners up has had such as Olly Murs and JLS.
The X Factor and the many manufactured acts that are out there nowadays reflect the current state of the record market. In the 1950's and 1960's if you wanted a copy of a record you had to go out and buy it. The arrival of the Compact Cassette in 1964 and its rise in popularity in the 1970's led to a reduction in record sales due to home taping. The music industry warned that home taping was killing music and accompanied the warning with the 'Cassette and Crossbones' logo, which now appears on the Pirate Bay website. The damage that home taping caused was nothing compared to the collapse in record sales and record shop closures caused by downloading. For every legal download there are scores of illegal ones and I guess that almost anyone who uses a computer (including myself) is guilty.
I enjoyed seeing Coldplay on last night's show but good quality original bands like them have to work for their money playing live concerts and doing the summer festival circuit. No longer can bands just put out a record then sit back and watch the royalty cheques come in. Monsters of rock such as the Stones, the Beatles and Queen may sadly become history.

Too bad the results were never to reflect of amazing talents such as Misha B, Amelia Lily but the popularity of four little kids who are just learning to sing (together).

As much as they may be very nice girls. Little Mix possesed little or no talent whatsoever. They couldn't sing in tune and the harmonies souded like a cats choir. Marcus and Amelia Lilley demonstrated real talent and deserved to win long before this crap. Little Mix were auwful but I'm sure all the wee 10 to 13 year olds will buy the tickets and the merchadise as Mr Cowell well knows. Shrewd Guy Mr Cowell, we should put him in charge of the economic recovery?

when this tripe was concieved it was supposed to be only the winner that got a recording contract after the final result but nowdays anyone who is half decent gets one so why bother voting. people need to take a reality check already cowell has little mix going on tour with one direction and if thats the case dont be surprised to hear the patter of tiny feet nine months later also he is trying to get them a spot in the opening ceremoney of the olympics if this is true then its a disgrace as they have done nothing to earn such a prestigous spot.

Misha b was best singer with exception to amelia but misha was in bottom two because of her bullying in fact she would have gone out first week after bullying was revealed! The judges saver her time and time again hoping the public would forgive her but had to give up on misha b eventually realising the public are unforgiven so let her go! well done lil mix

Its not a fix as far as voting is concerned and this is down to conspiracy theorists and others who dont like the show who want to spoil it for others who do!
Here are facts; The bottom two are defo the least voted!
(however this is where I have a problem and its the judges vote)
Ok there might be a time when someone has a bad night but the judges know they are better than the other one in the play off so will save the least voted! Now the judges have a rough idea as do we all who will make the final and its their influence in sing offs to save their favs if they fall into bottom two!
Outside the most likely finalists any sing offs can bring about a shock decision because there are reasonably good acts need to be sacrificed for example they and we know people like Frankie, Wagner and Jedwood are never going to win but to put out the better singer through judges vote causes a stir and gets people talking about the shock of the aforementioned going through against a better singer but as I said the judges ensure their main favs stay in the comp by saving them if the audience do vote them into bottom two so regardless of votes the judges have final say between two acts!

You poor, disillusioned, brain-washed fool.
Keep phone-voting and buying the records, Mr Cowell will love you for it.
I hope you enjoy lining his pocket

What a surprise - NOT!
Another succesful money-making scheme for Mr Cowell, after all, he must be suffering in this awful recession, he obviously needs to manufacture more drivel to make more money!
