Hotel Review: Casa Angelina, Praiano, Amafli Coast, Italy

The whitest hotel you'll ever stay in. Chic doesn't quite do it justice, but while we try and think up another adjective, think white and chic and you're pretty much there.

The USP: Cool, contemporary and very, very chic (did we mention that word before anywhere?).

Book it now if: Modern boutique hotels are your thing.

Bedding down: There are 43 rooms in all, all with sea views and nearly all with private balconies. Will it surprise you if we note they're all white? Seriously, from the in-room Nespresso machines and notebook computers to the bed linen and terrace sun loungers, it's all white. (Actually, the bathroom goodies are from L'Occitane and bright yellow, so not all white.)

Feed me: Breakfast is extra, but worth the money, while the hotel restaurant has won awards for its modern take on Italian cuisine. If you want to stretch your legs, there are numerous little restaurants a short walk from the hotel, or ask the hotel to hire you a boat and speed round to Positano for dinner on the beach. Burn off an extra large Salad Caprese with the 200 steps up from the boat jetty at the very foot of the hotel.

Easily bored: You're only a short bus ride (or car journey, if you're feeling brave) from Positano, Amafli and Sorrento, so could easily enjoy a week's worth of day trips. In the heat, however, the lure of the pool might prove too much.

What's the damage: Room prices start from Euro 325 for a classic room to Euro 1150 for a junior suite.

Point me in the right direction: Casa Angelina, Via G. Capriglione, 147, 84010 Praiano (Sa), Amalfi Coast, Italy (Tel. 39 089 813 13 33; Website: www.casangelina.com.
