Lodger Barry Morrow In Court Over Southport Murders

Lodger Appears In Court Over Southport Double Murder

A lodger has appeared in court charged with the murders of his landlady and her mother.

The strangled bodies of Angela Holgate, 54, and 75-year-old Alice Huyton were found at Mrs Holgate's home near Southport, Merseyside, on December 3.

A Europe-wide investigation was launched after reports that a key suspect was seen arriving in Calais, France, following the murders.

Lodger Barry Morrow, 51, was arrested in the UK on Thursday.

Morrow, of Fairhaven Road, Southport, appeared before South Sefton Magistrates' Court, in Bootle, charged with two counts of murder.

The defendant, wearing a blue jumper, confirmed to the court clerk that he understood the allegations.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday.
