Woman Accused Of 'Racist' Tram Rant Is Granted Bail

Emma West, the woman charged with racially-aggravated public order offence after a video showing a 'racist' tram rant went viral, has been granted bail in time in time for Christmas.

34-year old Emma West was initially going to remain in custody until 3 January "for her own good" as she had received death threats.

However the Croydon Guardian reported that Croydon Crown Court decided on Tuesday 13 December to allow her to spend the festive season at home.

The mother from New Addington, London, sobbed when she was shown the footage of the tram rant, which has now been viewed by more than 11 million people online.

She is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court on January 3 for a committal.
