British representation will be loud and proud at the Golden Globes in January, after a flurry of nominations for our home side.
Jeremy Irons and Damian Lewis will be going up against each other for Best Actor in a TV Drama, Irons for The Borgias, and Damian Lewis for Homeland. Homeland, yet to be seen in the UK, centred round a CIA agent who may, or may not, have gone renegade, was also nominated for Best TV Drama Series.
Meanwhile, Oscar winners Tilda Swinton and Kate Winslet have both been recognised again - Swinton with a nomination for Best Actress in a Drama for We Need To Talk About Kevin - and Winslet for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy (Carnage).
And Kenneth Branagh got a nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical for My Week With Marilyn, where he played stage and screen great Laurence Olivier, to Michelle Williams' Marilyn Monroe. Williams was also nominated.
Meanwhile, Dame Maggie Smith will be a popular recipient if she walks off with the Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for her scene-stealing turn in transatlantic hit Downton Abbey. Her Scottish rival for the award is Kelly Macdonald for Boardwalk Empire.
And popular Irishman Brendan Gleeson has received a nod for his scene-stealing turn in The Guard.
There was a British presence in the major awards list, with My Week With Marilyn, with its roll call of home-grown talent including Eddie Redmayne and Dame Judi Dench, receiving a nomination for Best Comedy or Musical. And War Horse received a place in the list for Best Drama (made by an American, Steven Spielberg, on British soil).
And we shouldn’t forget that The Adventures of Tintin, Spielberg’s first animated directorial effort (busy man), was penned by the very British team of Stephen Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright.
Nor the small matter of a British host... in the form of Ricky Gervais, invited back to the podium for a repeat gig, after he made light work, and mincemeat, of his celebrity audience last year.
