Carey Mulligan's Close Call With Kids' TV Presenter Role

Carey's Kids TV Blunder

Hollywood superstar Carey Mulligan came close to being a kids' TV presenter, but messed up her audition by babbling about her pet guinea pig.

The actress' mantelpiece is groaning under the weight of the awards she was bestowed after her turn as feisty schoolgirl Jenny in An Education, which proved a huge hit with Hollywood critics.

But things could have been so different for Carey had she won over producers at CITV at an audition for youngster's favourite Diggit, which was presented by Fearne Cotton.

She said: "I had to talk for a minute about something. They said, 'Pick any topic'. I talked about my guinea pig and it was awful.

"I got 20 seconds in, then had nothing left to say."

Came out on top in the end though didn't you, Carey!
