If you're trying to cause a ruckus by visiting an activist who's under house arrest, it's probably best not to do it in China - as Christian Bale found out during a recent trip.
Christian has obviously let his stint as Batman go to his head as he tried to storm a checkpoint to visit blind human rights campaigner Chen Guancheng, who has been banged up at home for over a year after daring to speak out against authorities.
After reaching a checkpoint at the Chinese village of Dongshigu with a camera crew, officials took one look at Christian and tried to turf him out, grabbing the recording equipment and telling him in no uncertain terms to get lost. How rude.
The guards then pursued the actor as he tried to leg it in a dramatic car chase, but Bale bravely told the cameras that he wasn't standing for it.
He said: "What I really wanted to do was to meet the man, shake his hand and say what an inspiration he is. I'm not brave doing this. The local people who are standing up to the authorities, who are visiting Chen and his family and getting beaten or detained, I want to support them... This doesn't come naturally to me, this is not what I actually enjoy - it isn't about me. But this was just a situation that said I can't look the other way."
We hope he didn't use the 'Don't you know who I am?' line.
