Daniel Craig Intends To 'Make The Best Bond Movie'

Daniel Craig has revealed he considers himself lucky to be working on another James Bond film, and admitted when he was first offered the role, he couldn't really see himself as 007.

The actor, back on the big screen on December 26 in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, returns as the famous spy in Skyfall, and has big ambitions for the film.

"I'm lucky enough to be given the chance to do a third Bond and it's my intention to make the best Bond movie; Bond with a capital B," he said.

For a while, it was looking unlikely he'd get the chance to play 007 again following 2008's Quantum Of Solace.

The franchise had been put on hold amid financial troubles, with the film company MGM filing for bankruptcy protection last November. Thankfully, a rescue deal and restructuring plan has meant Bond survives another day.

"Strangely, it wasn't frustrating because there was nothing I could do," Daniel explained. "It was a financial issue and I just had to let [the producers] get on with it.

"I was fortunate enough to go off and do some other projects, so I kept myself busy."

He was first announced as the surprise successor to Pierce Brosnan's Bond in 2005.

Die-hard fans were unable to envision a blonde-haired, blue-eyed 007 and Daniel himself initially walked away from the offer. "I couldn't see myself doing it at first," he admits. "I genuinely thought they were having a giggle."

But he soon settled into the role and proved the naysayers wrong by bringing a dramatic depth to the character. "There's always going to be somebody who says, 'That's not Bond, this is Bond', but I've made him my own and feel very comfortable and secure about that."
