How sad and condolences to the family. I have to say after living in quite a few countries, Britain is brilliant at a lot of things but car park design is not one of them. So often the exit car park traffic is directed towards the front of the store where quite obviously the most people will be??

I have to agree Susan69, our local Sainsburys is totally confusing re which lanes go in and which go out. Many times I have been reversing out of a parking bay when someone comes charging the wrong way along the lane, so you have to watch both directions, plus to check if anyone behind you is reversing out at the same time.
I think the American parking system beats ours, they mostly seem to have oblique offset parking, giving a much clearer view, plus a much easier exit from the parking bay.

first my condolences go out to the family.

Supermarket and garden centre car parks are dangerous places. both drivers and the walking public are to blame for this as drivers are so busy looking for a parking place and thinking about their shopping that the majority of them drive in car parks with out due care. But also once they have parked their cars a lot of them seem to think its ok to walk behind a reversing car or step out in front of one even though they drive themselves put them together and its an accident waiting to happen

Two recent experiences I have witnessed recently between myself and women drivers , in car parks.
They were in cars I was a pedestrian. I am a driver of 42 years experience.
Car was parked directly outside supermarket with front of car level with zebra crossing.
I stepped onto the crossing as someone was getting in the car. While I was directly in front the car moved off bumping into me. The passenger looked on in horror as she saw me but the driver was totally unaware that I was there. She said she was not looking and I should be more careful !!!!
I will not print my reply for fear of offending.
The second was when I was passing behind a car which was fronted into a space. The engine was running so I looked for reversing lights, I observed the lady driver speaking on the phone so I proceeded to walk behind the car. As my shopping trolley was behind the car the reversing lights came on and the car reversed at speed colliding luckily with the trolley and not me.
The driver was quite annoyed at scratching her car
I explained that when reversing you need to look behind before moving an that we should report the matter to the police which she was reluctant to do as other people had seen what had occurred.
I am not saying its only women that make these errors but most are reluctant to admit fault.

I would say most people who are at fault and know it are reluctant to admit it. This is not a gender issue, it is a tragedy that could have been prevented if all people involved were perceptive to the hazards and that includes male drivers and drivers with numerous years experience. I do believe you sermon above its completely uneccessary under the circumstances.

Not a sermon - anecdotes, and rather more interesting than many posts.

I always apologise if I make a mistake when driving although I rarely make one as I only concentrate on my driving and my route when in the car.

I agree with you. I drove Trucks for 40 years. Not trying to be catty but I find a lot of women drivers are dithery and indicisive. But criticise women at your peril, comments like this brings out the worst in some women. Why did God give women legs? To walk from the kitchen to the bedroom and back...calm down girls, I am joking :-)
12:38 AM on 12/19/2011
They do not take criticism well, thats for sure, especially about their driving.
Also another variation on your joke, wdggwlegs.... have you seen the mess a snail makes? Sorry ladies not told that one for years. Again sorry but I couldn't resist.

first my condolences to the family.

Why was my comment removed? I only said men apply the brakes and women take their hands off the wheel..... what is wrong with that??
