"The picture is meant to show that he is fighting against himself, something that we do every day” said Regis Matthey, the man responsible for these stunning light art images.
For although it looks like a scene from Harry Potter, this isn't a computer-generated picture of two wizards dueling with magic - it’s just one man captured using a strobe light and some very clever photography skills.
Matthey - a noted light artist - took his friend Johannes on a night time trip to the beaches of Abel Tasman national park in New Zealand, where they staged the ‘duel’.
"We used an exposure time of 113 seconds," the 24-year-old explained.
"Johannes assumed the position in the first place and then rushed to the other side but took his top off and threw his head backwards.
"The effect is to give the impression that there are two different people, but in fact it is one man. I used the strobe light and torch to make it look like he was involved in some magical superhero fight.”
