It may be the season of joy and goodwill to all men, but if you're Vince Cable that doesn't stretch to Tory MPs.

The business secretary has revealed not one Conservative MP made it onto his Christmas card list.

"I'm sending no Christmas cards to Tory MPs, but I look forward to getting back to business working with them in the New Year," he said in a live web chat on Tuesday.

Ever tactful, Cable also told users of the website gransnet that he'd only ever imagined being in coalition with the Conservatives as a "nightmare".

"But the best way of dealing with nightmares isn't to hide under the sheets but to get up and deal directly with the things we feared."
