David and Victoria Beckham have asked for a private family Christmas card to be removed from online publications after it was leaked and spread around the world on social networking sites.

The couple, who are in the UK for the Christmas break, had created a personal family Christmas card featuring a photo of their four children, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, Cruz, five, and five-month-old daughter Harper, in bed together.

The card was intended for a small number of journalists and magazine editors around the world but the couple's spokesman has since asked for the photo to be removed from any websites.

The holiday card was unintentionally leaked by Senior Fashion News Director of Teen Vogue magazine, Jane Keltner De Valle who tweeted: "Cutest thing about @victoriabeckham's xmas card? Photo cred on back that reads 'Picture by Daddy'."

The photo was then published by Editor of Glamour magazine Jo Elvin who backtracked, tweeting: "I should point out, the Christmas card from the Beckhams is NOT for publication. It was private. My bad. Sorry, got swept up in adorableness."

The picture was later picked up by Celebrity Big Brother contestant Darryn Lyons' website Mr Paparazzi and then spread like wildfire across Twitter and Facebook.

The couple are used to huge amounts of media attention but this adorable photo was clearly intended for a select few of their friends.

Sending out so-called private family photos on Christmas cards to magazine editors and journalists "around the world" and then complaining b/c the photo(s) got published makes as much sense and putting a screen door on a submarine and wondering why it doesn't work.

The idea was doomed from the start. However, I fail to see the problem with such a lovely card. Just sayin ...

A very dodgy issue, making a private xmas card and sending it to people who are employed as jounalists.
Now who would imagine that a jounalist woulld ever use a xmas card from a publicity junkie to create a story?
Either this was a setup or the pair of them are even dumber than most of us think they are.

What a great idea. You want to keep a family card personal and private so you send it to a load of journalists...

Many in GB agree with you entirely.

... but our football is still a better game than your version!

Most of us don't rate them but they have a talent for grabbing headlines and keeping their faces in the media. I wish they would go away.

well another great idea for FREE publicity. VB loves publicity and if they wanted to give money to charity why not write a cheque, lets face it they are LOADED

Why send out a picture of your children semi naked in bed anyway?? (If thats the photo they are upset about) I know the photo was innocent and we all have those kinds of pics in our family albums but it was very inapropriate to share!

agreed. beautiful pic and nice to send out to friends and family but how inappropriate to send to journalists?! either they're looking for publicity (as if they don't have enough) or they're really still that dumb and naive to consider journalists as friends. doesn't matter how long they've known them.. theyre journalists! and that journo said a simple 'my bad' on twitter so clearly doesn't care!

Bless them to get in a tizzy about a Christmas Card. They seem to consider themselves more royal than the royals.Whats this sod the bleeding Knighthood you and Vicky want to be King and Queen.

Is it just me or is there something about Victoria's sulky face that stops me having any sympathy? Not jealous of their money but it's the way she presents herself.
I will be turning on my TV on Christmas day of course to watch her speech, hope we see other photos of her Royal family then..

I feel so sorry for them. It means people have got to see it for free. Why send a private personal card to journalists?
I suppose "posh" can always get a cleaning job to make up for the cash shortfall.

Seriously Cruz should not be so thin even at his age.....!

some kids are exceptionally skinny but in this case i do wonder if a boy his age can be influenced by seeing his mother not eat.. which she clearly doesn't.

Who exactly was upset?!?

What a friend we have in journalists .They are priveledged to keep the photos in their wallets and mobile for momentos. This is not the way to treat a shy and retired family who just want to have a private family christmas. Shame on you Paparas !! Shame on you Journalists.

I hope I'm wrong but that photo was heading for editors and journalists so they were intending to make money from it. If they said the £'s would be donated to a child charity, I'd say Merry Christmas.

They are over rated he is just an average football player ,I remember him commenting on Ronaldo saying just don't go for the money! well David you did just that ,and as for Victoria considering you can't even draw you haven't done bad as a designer ! You think you are the royals don't you, expect to play for England when you decide to go to the States to live what is this keep in with the royals expecting to get knighted! Give others a chance who are dedicated to English football you are passed it now.
