Michael Kiwanuka Joins Adele And Keane By Winning BBC Sound Of 2012 Award

Is He The Sound Of 2012?

Michael Kiwanuka has been tipped for the top in 2012 in a poll of music business insiders.

The north Londoner topped the BBC Sound of 2012 list of most promising musical stars for the year ahead, with his acoustic soul sound.

He said: "It's very encouraging for some of my music to be noticed and considered as something worth listening to.

"I think it's every musician's dream to have any sort of recognition for their art, something that is so personal. This is something

that I don't take for granted.

"I hope I can fulfil some people's expectations, but most importantly I hope people that enjoy my music feel like they can get something worthwhile from listening to it."

Kiwanuka was joined in the top five by US singer-songwriter Frank Ocean, rapper Azealia Banks, Dubstep producer Skrillex and Swedish dance duo Niki and The Dove.

Previous winners include Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Keane and Adele.
