One Direction were left in shock on Wednesday night after they were involved in a road crash following their gig in Birmingham.

The five-piece boy band, comprising of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne, played a gig in the city before jumping in their tour bus to return to their hotel.

However, on the way back to the hotel, the bus was involved in a collision with another vehicle and police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene of the accident.

The singers were all treated for neck injuries and advised to cancel their Thursday night gig in Plymouth as three members were found to be suffering severe headaches and spinal pain.

A source tells the Daily Mirror: "It was pretty terrifying for everyone concerned. All five boys, plus two members of the crew, were in their tour bus when the car rammed into the back of it.

"Thankfully, it withstood most of the impact but obviously, travelling at speed, the boys couldn't avoid whiplash. After careering across the road, both vehicles came to a stop. Louis, Zayn and Niall were the worst affected.

"Paramedics advised management to scrap the gig in Plymouth but because the boys didn't want to let anyone down they agreed to go ahead."

As news spread of the crash spread across the internet, fans took to social networking sites to express their distress, with one devotee tweeting: "(Are) the rumours true about One Direction in a car crash!!!!!!!!! I feel like crying !!!!"

some people commenting obviously have never been in an accident. a bus only has lap belts so a hit from the rear will cause a sudden jolt in the neck. the occupants of the other car may not want their 'story' to be publisised.
maybe we should all be thankfull that they only experianced minor injuries and it could have bben a lot worse. After all they are all someones children and i am sure no parent wants to hear that thier child has been hurt!
