Russell Brand is used to making a joke of people during his stand-up comedy routines but the star made a bad move during his marriage after taunting Katy Perry's parents over their religious beliefs.

California Girl singer Katy and funnyman Russell revealed the breakdown of their 14 month union after Russell filed for divorce in Los Angeles last Friday citing "irreconcilable differences".

The couple set the rumour mill into motion after spending Christmas apart but it seems Katy's parents may have banished the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor from Christmas Dinner.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "Russ was forever making lewd jokes at the dinner table and poking fun at her parents' beliefs.

"He managed to restrain himself in the beginning - just.

"But as the marriage progressed, he got worse and kept winding up her family. After the lust wore off, reality hit home about their differences and (Katy) was left thinking, 'What have I done?'"

Teenage Dream singer Katy is thought to have asked Russell to file for divorce to avoid going against her evangelical Christian parents' beliefs as they do not believe in divorce.

Russell, what were you thinking?!

I had hoped their marriage would last. Katy's parents should be more supportive of their daughter who is going through a hard time, instead of using the situation to advertise. Sounds a little self-serving to me. Also, sounds as if their church is a little brain-washing like WBC.

Katy is the one mocking their beliefs (which we all know are not Christian at ALL now) just by her "is that a hickey or a bruise" lifestyle. She's a 27 year old woman dressing like a five year old in gummy bears, cupcakes being marketed alongside acts half her age. I never thought I'd say this, but Brand looks like the mature one in this instance. Given all the alleged drama by Katy that her parents would be upset by a divorce, instead, they are just milkingit for their five minutes of fame! really sensitive of them: they should be comforting their daughter in what surely must be a difficult time, not getting publicity for themselves? If Russell Brand was making fun, well they are religious fundamentalist Americans after all. No sense of humour, and certainly no intelligence: they believe the world was literally made in 7 days, so they could hardly be expected to understand sarcasm, irony or metaphor. Run Russell! RUN!

Well, according to the Sun, during one of their "preaching" events in Ohio this week, Mir. Hudson share this little nugget with his followers:

"Keith Hudson told hundreds of worshippers: 'You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey.

'You go to LA and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of LA where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah. Amen.."

This was the same event where Mrs. Hudson called her daughter's pending divorce a "gift from god."

Now if this reporting is true and Ms. Perry's parent were spouting the kind of nonsense in Mr. Brand's presence, I can't say that I blame him from engaging in a bit of mockery. I get the whole "respect for your elders" thing -- but comments like these would test the patience of Job.

from what i read katie rebelled against her parents religion and very strict upbringing. so perhaps the parents kept spouting religious stuff at dinner. if that happened then he would have said something half mocking them to shut them up. Americans seem to go overboard with religion.

I love Russell Brand's humor. Makes me laugh every time. However, when you are at someone's dinner table, it pays to politely keep some of your thoughts to yourself. In my family there are divergent beliefs and opinions. To keep the peace we don't go out of our way to push each other's buttons. Instead we recognise our common bonds and love one another. It's called respect.

Russell Brand has to be the most over rated performer ever, he cannot act, he is the worst "comedian" i have ever seen, just not funny. An ego who has got way out of line on many occasions. Let him fade into insignificance, that where this talentless idiot belongs
