CES 2012: Samsung Unveils 'Future Proof' And Super OLED TVs

Samsung Unveils TVs Of The Future

Ready for a new TV? Thanks to Samsung your next set just might be the last one you ever buy.

The South Korean company has just unveiled a new 'smart' TV that won't go out of date and a massive, incredibly thin, 3D model, at the Consumer Electronics Convention (CES).

The Samsung smart TV has a plug-in slot in the back which can be upgraded using the 'Smart Evolution' kit, and not thrown into landfill as technology advances.

The TV will also connect to the internet without any add-ons, making it easier to view YouTube and online streaming services like Netflix and LoveFilm.

In a press release, Boo-Keun Yoon, President and Head of Consumer Electronics Division at Samsung Electronics said: "Samsung has created the ability to scale up your TV each year, ensuring the best new TV experience for years to come."

Kinect currently allows Xbox Live users to control their TV without using remote controls, by yelling or waving their arms about. It's a lot of fun - especially useful when you can't find the remote.

Samsung are also putting their money on 3D TVs, having sold The Guardianmore than 12 million since they hit the market in 2010.

The new 3D 'Super OLED' Samsung TV announced at CES is a whopping 55in and is only 4mm thick - slimmer than your average notebook.

Samsung calls the 55in whopper the "ultimate TV", and it promises vivid picture quality in both 2D and 3D and faster response times than LED.

It's also lightweight thanks to self-emitting RGB LEDs, and when turned off, will appear like "a framed piece of luxurious floating glass".

So now we have the TV of the future all we need is some content makers to deliver programmes we want to watch at 55 inches. Midsomer Murders HD marathon, anyone?
