Benedict Cumberbatch refused to be drawn on whether he'll be back for another series of the already much-loved Sherlock, but hinted that it might prove difficult for him to return PHYSICALLY for a third installment after the final episode which we'll see on Sunday.

Presumably, this will involve an encounter with his nemesis Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland, which finished off the famous detective in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original novels.

Due to popular outcry for the return of Holmes, Conan Doyle was forced to bring him back to life - and from the sound of things, we might have to cross fingers for the same outcome on our TV screens.

The Sherlock star was in attendance at the UK premiere of War Horse, Steven Spielberg's epic First World War drama, in which he plays an officer, but acknowledged the popularity of the TV series that has made him a household name.

Hollywood has certainly come calling for the British star of stage and screen. He's already Down Under working on Peter Jackson's big-budget version of The Hobbit, after which he'll be setting off to play the villain in the Star Trek sequel.
