Police have appealed for witnesses after a husband and wife were violently attacked with bricks and a stick in front of their children in an apparent racist hate crime.
West Midlands Police said the assault, on Henn Street, Tipton, on Sunday evening, was "completely unprovoked".
The injured man remains in hospital, receiving treatment for injuries he sustained in the attack.
Sergeant Stephanie Court said: "The family are understandably traumatised by their experience and I would like to appeal for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact me, in the strictest confidence.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to make it clear that we do not tolerate any form of hate crime in Tipton and we will seek to prosecute those involved in such activity.
"Thankfully this kind of offence is rare in this area."
Witnesses are urged to contact police on 0345 113 5000 extension 7630 6804 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
