Golden Globes 2012: 'The Descendants' Keeps It Interesting For 'The Artist Ahead Of Oscars

The Oscars Just Got Interesting...

Oscar favourites The Descendants and The Artist were the big winners at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday night, picking up the top movie awards and the two Best Actor honours.

The two films, incredibly different in subject matter and production techniques, are neck and neck for the big prizes at Oscar night next month, following success for them both at the Globes.

The Artist was a triple winner, claiming trophies for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Actor (Jean Dujardin), while director Alexander Payne's film The Descendants took home the Best Motion Picture Drama prize and a Best Actor gong for George Clooney.

The Artist was also a winner for Best Score.

There were no multiple wins for any other movie, but TV series Homeland picked up two honours for Best TV Drama and Best Actress (Claire Danes).

It was also a big night for Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn), Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Christopher Plummer (Beginners), who all won acting awards, and Martin Scorsese, who picked up the Best Director honour for Hugo.

TV winners included Kate Winslet (Mildred Pierce), Idris Elba (Luther), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Jessica Lange (American Horror Story), while Modern Family was named Best TV Comedy and period drama Downton Abbey picked up the Best Mini-Series honour.
