Jewellery Worth £430,000 Stolen From Auction House

Jewellery worth £430,000 has been stolen from an auction house in Glasgow.

The robbery was reported by a member of staff from McTears Auctioneers in Govan after he discovered the alarm had been de-activated and the safe was open when he arrived to open for business on Tuesday.

Strathclyde Police said a suspect was seen on CCTV entering McTears, in Meiklewood Road, at around 7.15am.

More than 300 individual pieces of jewellery were taken, the majority of which was ladies jewellery, including necklaces, earrings, brooches, diamond and emerald rings. A Rolex watch is also among the stolen items.

Detective Sergeant Jane Lawson said they are examining the CCTV footage and extensive inquiries are under way.

She said: "So far we are able to say that the suspect arrived wearing a black woollen hat, a high-visibility vest, and dark clothing and was carrying a black hold-all. A few minutes later a car with its headlights on arrived into the car park outside the auctioneers.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in Meiklewood Road and saw a car leaving the car park of McTears Auctioneers around 07:20 hours to contact me."

Images of the stolen goods have been released and Lawson is asking jewellers who recognise them to contact officers if they have been offered any items for sale.
