National TV Awards 2012: Coronation Street Wins Battle Of The Soaps

Corrie Wins National Battle Of The Soaps

The most highly-contested award of the National Television Awards - that of Continuing Drama aka Soap - was won by Coronation Street this year.

It had been a close-run thing until the final whistle, with Coronation Street and its closest rival EastEnders each pocketing one award each earlier in the show.

Corrie could boast Best Drama Performance winner in Katherine Kelly as Becky (who left the Street this week in typically dramatic fashion), but EastEnders garnered the Best Newcomer gong for Jacqueline Jossa as Lauren Branning.

Many of the actors appeared on stage to accept the award, with Street veteran Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster, giving thanks on behalf of the cast and crew.
