Ministry Of Defence Will Axe 3,000 More Civilian Jobs, Claims Prospect Union

Ministry Of Defence Job Cuts

The Ministry of Defence is "heading for the cliff edge" and will be forced to axe 3,000 more civilian jobs, according to civil service union Prospect.

In October 2010's strategic defence and security review (SDSR), 25,000 job cuts were announced. But on Thursday Prospect said the figure would reach 28,000, and warned cut backs were being "rushed through" to save money.

"MoD is driving off a cliff, looking over its shoulder at a pack baying for civil service blood. Our members have had enough. Morale could not be lower," National officer Steve Jary said.

"It is cutting the very people it needs to maintain its role as an intelligent customer and to provide support to our hard-pressed armed forces. It just doesn't make sense. The armed forces needs both the skills and specialisms of those in the civil service coupled with the military capacity provided by our soldiers."

Staff affected include engineers, maintenance workers, and admin staff. Prospect estimates there will be 55,000 civilian staff in the MoD by the end of this parliament, compared to 118,000 fifteen years ago.

A MoD spokesman said plans were subject to changes after review: "Each year, we review our plans to take account of changes over the previous 12 months and to ensure that we have the right equipment and manning levels to meet the future needs of our armed forces as agreed in the strategic defence and security review.

"Final decisions have yet to be taken but this annual process rightly considers the status of all our key programmes to ensure the continued coherence and balance of the whole programme."

If we got rid of the overpaid senior officers ( is more Admirals than Ships) other cut backs would not be needed

Gov needs taxpayers money (defence budget) to pay RSB boss. You know it makes sense.

3,000,mmmm, Lots more have went before and many will follow, but never mind, there should be another 3,000 immigramts to replace them, plenty more room 370,000 immigrants drawing dole, according to Murdochs paper,(no mention of the sick of course), then the "Students" who dont want to go home or their country wont accept them back, in 14 yrs of "Open Borders", their is only 370.000 immigrants on the dole, lol, who does the counting, Blair didnt know, Brown didnt know, milliband doesnt know, the two "U" turners, Clegg and Cameron dont know, i must be the brain of Britain, I would double that figure if you count the third of immigrants in our jails( according to Murdochs paper), adding on the students as ive said, personally i think 1 million is a more realistic figure taking them all into consideration, my message to Cameron,Clegg and Milliband is this:- "CLOSE THE DOORS, WE ARE WELL AND TRULY FULL TO CAPACITY.Read this quick, any "Honest" comment is usually taken off by you know who.

More people being put out of work-sooner tories are kicked out of power the better.
23:25 on 26/01/2012
These pen pushers should never have been employed in the first instance. However, it was Labour policy to "create" jobs to increase their chances of having captive voters. Will the MoD now rescind 3000 servicemen's redundancy notices?
15:11 on 27/01/2012
engineers and maintenance workers are penpushers ?..you really are a bit silly if you think the MOD will run without civilian staff
00:45 on 27/01/2012
The Tories didnt create it, labour did for 12 years, and if your a Labour voter then you are part of it,you had a chance of getting rid of Blair and you voted them in when we were being swamped by immigration,(and still are) the Tories were going to stop it as it "DOES" affect our economy, Cameron lost his spine as he didnt want to be a racist, Germany has the best economy and they lost the last war, read this quick before the H~~~~~~~~~N P~~~~~E wake up, rumour has it they are taking a break.

Civilian workers jobs that are being cut! We still need a fighting force apparently!
21:26 on 26/01/2012
Send back illegal immigrants back to their native land? Send refugees to those countries where there is no more war and settled government than migrants workers too? Once this happen, government do not have to get rid of 20,000 Police officers, 28000 Army personnel and out of 3 millions who are unemployed people, 1 or 2 millions may be on jobs, so more revenue and more jobs. Less crime too because everyone had job? There is no problem, there was no problem but problem was created to be here today. It does not make sense?

One run a household budget and knows what is the income and out going so this person knows what would keep everyone safe in that house, would he bring 10 more people to live while there are no jobs for them and for short time contract? No he would not and once this 10 people loose the job, who would pay for them? Would he make other family members to get their saving and force them too to live with food cut programme? If they do that, the chances are they too get sick and have to live job? Dam everyone unemployed? Hell no

Thank you Godchild, well said, how lucky you have been, i hold the record for speaking the truth and my comment vanishes sometimes before im finished writing, im amazed you have got away with that but rumour has it the H~~~~~~~~~N P~~~~~~E are asleep so youve been lucky, its cost tens of Billions for 14 yrs of immigration and "Open Doors, those figures are Taboo on here To "Honest" you see, Read this quick in case they wake up
21:26 on 26/01/2012
unite is worried about its pen pushers shut up and worry abouthe front line where it really hurts
23:29 on 26/01/2012
Pen pushers are more expendable than servicemen and women. Instead of letting these wasters become redundant with fat pay-offs, redeploy them in other branches of the MoD, namely the fighting forces - with the same level of pay as service personnel on active service and not Civil Service pay scales.

not very bright are you ?

ncddee and mickey mouse. Please stop reading the Daily Mail. A lot of waste and inefficiency was caused not by the civil servants who will now lose their job but by interfering ministers (and the £1000 light bulb is an urban myth anyway). I worked for 20 years in the MOD before being made redundant two years ago. When I joined, the MOD bought stuff and stored it in vast warehouses just in case it was needed. If we went to war, off they would pop to and collect the equipment needed from store. The tories thought this a waste - storing equipment that may not be needed and introduced a 'just in time' procurement system. They reasoned that any war would be seen in plenty of time and stuff could be bought for it (cold war thinking). As we learned, this was rubbish - Britain offen finds itself in conflicts at short notice (those sneaky foreigners!). When wars broke out, procurement officials had to run round in a panic trying to source equipment at very short notice. A lot of miltary suppliers either weren't geared up to supply at such short notice or were already supplying other goverments who got priority. One procurement official I knew spent days trying to get batteries for American made radios only to be told that American forces had priority. So British troops went to war without spare batteries. Of course the papers blamed the civil servants and not the idiot Minister who thought

steve

I've Fav'd you!

Idiot ministers indeed!
03:13 on 29/01/2012
You are sooooooo right, Steve. Hope you have managed to find a new job.

Its about time! It doesnt matter what government is in power, the MOD is a law unto itself. There are too many highly paid buffoons who waste money and put lives at risk because of their incompetence. I was in military for nearly 15 years and was appaulled at the tax payers money wasted and the inefficent way the forces were run. Jobs for the boys, as they say!
20:55 on 26/01/2012
Compusary redundancies for the fighters and voluntary ones for the desk jockies.
Is there something wrong here?
20:21 on 26/01/2012
some of the biggest losses made in the civil service were made by the MOD. Who failed to get the best equipment for our troops when they are sent to war and spend highly inflated prices for the most basic of stuff.
20:16 on 26/01/2012
I was wondering about this when i seen MOD i thought i didn know match of the day employed tha many people
00:01 on 27/01/2012
I've faved you!

Another good laugh!
10:50 on 28/01/2012
LOL, they may as well be kicking balls around!
20:09 on 26/01/2012
The MOD are dismissing trained armed forces personnel and at the same time running costly T.V. advertisements for R.A.F. recruitment. Doesn't seem to make sense to me, as it must costs thousands of pounds to train each new recruit.......is this crazy......or is it just me that thinks so?
20:59 on 26/01/2012
Your right
19:58 on 26/01/2012
hOW MANY OF THEM ARE OFFICE BODS????
