Dad Scores Team's Opening Goal Minutes Before Daughter Is Born!

When Claire Anderson, 25, went into labour with her first baby, she expected her boyfriend, semi-pro footballer Chris Morris to keep to his promise to be by her side.

Instead, Chris, 22, drove his partner to her mum's house so he could make his home debut for his team, Stafford Rangers!

Whilst on the pitch, Chris got a message from his team's assistant manager who shouted at him that Claire was being rushed to hospital, but still the devoted footballer played on - going on to score his side's opening goal!

However, Chris came to his senses at half-time and dashed from the pitch to the hospital, arriving in his muddy kit just in time to witness the birth of little Savannah Louise.

The dad told The Mirror: "I could hear my assistant manager shouting that she was in labour but I was having a good game. And five minutes later I've only gone and scored. The ball came over the top and I've gone past three defenders and knocked it in!"

"Claire was delighted when I got to hospital. She asked how the game was going and I said it was 1-0 and I'd scored. I think it helped take her mind off the birth. She'd have battered me if I'd not been there."

Sales manager Claire said she would have been 'going mad' if Chris had not made it, and said he had been 'cutting it quite fine', but added he got to see the 'best' bits.

"He got the best side of the deal, missing all the bad stuff and just seeing the birth!"

Baby Savannah weighed in at 6lbs 5oz and Chris's team had a 5-1 victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels!

QPR player Joey Barton also cut it fine for his son's birth, as we reported.
