At least 10 people were killed in a pile-up when cars and lorries collided with each other on a Florida highway that was shrouded in fog.
Lieutenant Patrick Riodan, of the Florida highway patrol, said there were crashes on both sides of the road.
"We had a mixture of a fog and smoke that combined in to that area that made visibility a factor and we had a serious of crashes," he said.
"We had approximately five to six commercial motor vehicles and approximately six, maybe as many as 10, passenger vehicles involved."
