If the Screen Actors Guild Awards are any indication of how the Oscars may go, then the Academy Awards seem set to ignore George Clooney for his star turn in The Descendants and Melissa McCarthy for her scene-stealing one in Bridesmaids.

Instead, the drama The Help was the big winner - scooping two awards that could have gone to Bridesmaids (best cast and best supporting female actor). Clooney, meanwhile, was once again beaten to the best actor gong by The Artist's Jean Dujardin. Octogenarian Christopher Plummer remains on track for his Oscar, however, after scooping the SAG award for best supporting actor in Beginners.

In the television categories, the guild rewarded Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock and Betty White for Hot In Cleveland - while Modern Family, hot on the heels of its Golden Globe award, won best comedy ensemble.
