A Nasa spacecraft has detected neutral “alien” particles that come from beyond our solar system.

The discovey, made by the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX), gives the most complete glimpse yet of what lies beyond the solar system, and the history of other stars in the Milky Way.

While orbiting Earth 200,000 miles away, the IBEX was able to observe three separate types of atoms including oxygen, hydrogen and neon, which are the raw material for the formation of new stars, planets and even human beings.

Nasa’s Ulysses spacecraft detected interstellar neutral helium more than a decade ago, the Daily Mail reported.

David McComas, team leader of the IBEX program, said: “It’s exciting to be able to have these first observations of alien matter – stuff that didn’t come from our sun or the planets, but came from the outside of our solar system, from other parts of the galaxy.

“We think these are really important measurements, because these elements are the fundamental building blocks of stars, planets and people”, National Geographic reported.

The IBEX spacecraft was launched in October 2008 with the objective is to discover the nature of the interactions between the solar wind and the interstellar medium at the edge of our solar system.

To professor grumskin who's comment doesn't seem to be there. I hope he reads this and understand what I meant by his response to my first comment on this subject.

I take it your another smart one professor grumskin. Now going by the name are you really a professor? If so then I shouldn’t be chatting to you, as your way far too smart for the likes of me. Now it’s embarrassing to be told that my comment was the most poorly thought out post you have read, and getting the comments from you, Icdmartin, and dvbhoy1888, makes me feel worse now.
I take it your all from the same litter???
Read my second comment to dvbhoy1888 perhaps that will explain what I mean???
May I also add with someone of your good thinking or comments, your grammar leaves a lot to be desired don’t you think???
Perhaps I should feel privileged to be educated by people like you Icdmartin and dvbhoy1888 who is smarter than me.
Be truthful did you know the answer yourself or did you have to Google it or find out some other way?
Can you tell me which came first the Hen or the Egg???

Whilst I find this kind of stuff extremely interesting, how on earth (or shouild that be, how in space) can they tell these particles are from outside our solar system, if they are still called oxygen, hydrogen and helium. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we breathe oxygen here on good old mother earth ?. And don't we fill our party balloons with helium ?. And didn't we used to fill our blimps with hydrogen ?. What makes this suspected interstellar stuff different from our own ?.

Typical!! Immigrant particles taking jobs away from our native born particles.
21:27 on 01/02/2012
Ha! Good one!! :D

Hang on.... what's new about this...... Surely we already know that the life cycle of stars is the origin of all the 92 elements that make up life and the universe as we know it... ???? We are born in the stars and that's where we return ????
22:05 on 01/02/2012
I understand that there are some 118 confirmed elements discovered so far, the latest going by the name of Ununotium, they predict more will be found.
What amuses mre is the 'scare word' ALIEN,
If it not from this planet it will be ALIEN, but then again all the elements we find here come originally from space, so where is the suprise?
We are all ALIENS, now that can get scary.

with zillion's of planet's in a never ending space what could possibly be out their maybe a one eyed two horn three toed frog o wait we have one of those it is called george bush

This article has attracted a lot of comments, positive, constractive, sarcastic, sardonic, vitrous, intelligent and so on. That is a way to think more deeply about who we are, what's the purpose of being on this planet , where we are going to. For certain we are all going back to dust, in the meantime let's enjoy our planet and marvel at the miracles of nature. Despite all our knowledge we are only scratching the surface and there a lot more scratching to do just to gaign a little more insight.

I think that the particles were found to be a chocolate derivative .... ie Galaxy , Mily way, flake etc ?

Queue the usual politician-alien jokes....... zzz

The Aliens have asked for asylum in Britain and where do they get the benefits information form and free detached housing application documents. They have stated that help in completing these forms is not necessary since they are already aware of the existence of several experts knowledgeable in the fraudlent completion of such forms. They also enquired whether it was true that the best way to get free lodgings, private medical healthcare and top level care for their elderly was to commit an offence?

Good to see someone else picked up on the only source being the Daily Fail and (I hope you are) mocking the typical shoddy stories found in its pages.
18:33 on 01/02/2012
As the man said Aliens are already here , mostly in politics.
14:55 on 01/02/2012
does this mean there are aliens out there or is this another case headline sensationlism
16:24 on 01/02/2012
Of course there are - sheer arrogance to believe we are the sole living creature in the big wide universie - it just isn't clear if this is evidence of them or not.

*universe, sorry typo

So if these three separate types of atoms including oxygen, hydrogen and neon, build what these so called smart people say build people, then why are there not people up there? After all these so called smart people said we were built from space debris, which is hard to believe, as there so many forms of life on earth. And if we were built from this debris, I cannot figure out how, it takes two people/animals, ect to make another life. Why are there not people still being born from this so called matter which made the earth and life on it years ago???
O and another thing, how come that if we did come from dust particles, why humans, animals, birds, and so many different species of birds and animals, that when we humans were formed, that some humans hadn’t a cows head, or a sharks tail, or even a frog’s head or legs, after all you’d nearly wonder how this dust settled in such a way, that there was a pile for humans, a different pile for fish. No there would need to be a lot different piles for all the different piles of animal species. So how come that these different dust piles didn’t get mixed up when they formed/landed in the first place?
Confused just a wee, wee bit.
15:59 on 01/02/2012
This post made me laugh. "So called smart people". Going by this post everyone is smart compared to you. You should really read a book or watch some TV on evolution, space and stuff like that. But dont go doing it for too long, if you dont dust your house often enough the dust can collect and form a human with a cow's head!

Everything on earth didnt form from dust collecting although thats how the earth was formed over billions of years. All lifeforms on earth evolved from single celled organisms. Oxygen and the like are just the essential building blocks of life that need the right specifications to form life on a planet, i.e the planet being in the "goldilocks zone", plenty of water on this planet and billions of years under the same conditions for this life to grow and evolve. Thats why earth is filled with all sorts of different life.

Sorry this I had to put this into two parts dvbhoy1888
Ok you seem to be one of these smart people. So I'm going to ask a question to you. Where did it all start? Now going by some sciences we evolved from monkeys/gorillas, some said we came after the big band.
Now this is the theories I'm on about. If we did come from this so called big bang than all that came out of the big bang was dust.
Now dvbhoy1888 not, (NOW N O T) my explanation but one of Y O U smart people. So that is the point I'm getting at. Now if we came from dust, how come this dust fell into different piles? You seem to be having a laugh at me because I'm not as smart as you, and I'm not afraid to admit I'm not the smartest cookie in the jar, nevertheless you seem to be at the top of the ladder. So from that aspect, perhaps you can tell me when the first human was on the first rung of the ladder what did they look like?
22:47 on 01/02/2012
Now remember going by sciences we came from this big bang which was dust. Now again this is not my explanation but scientist. And seeing your so smart dvbhoy1888, surly the question no one seem to know the answer to, would come naturally to you, and that's which came first the hen or the egg???
That's one of the wee problems I have.
Please try and not laugh at me as I told you I'm not near as clever as you seem to be.
I'll ask you another question, one I know the answer to, perhaps you will know. I'll refries that, I know you know but I just want to hear your answer.
Who is better than God, Worse than the Devil, the poor have it, and the rich don't want it?
Be truthful did you know the answer yourself or did you have to googal it or find out some other way?
16:25 on 01/02/2012
Wow. You sould like you'd be confused by an episode of Countdown.
23:41 on 01/02/2012
Sorry I said Band instead of Bang.
23:58 on 01/02/2012
Well Icdmartin I just don’t watch countdown full stop. Reason?
I’m too stupid, but you’re probable like professor grumskinm and dvbhoy1888 you’re having a good laugh but I suppose when your laughing at me someone else is getting peace.
Now you sound as if you’re good at countdown? Well your spellings like mine; it's not the best is it???
Read my second comment to dvbhoy1888 perhaps that will explain what I mean???

I asked these questions to dvbhoy1888 as well and like I told them I want the answer from you, not by asking someone, or using goggle, but seeing your so smart you won’t need to ask or goodle? Just be truthful ok?

Who is better than God, Worse than the Devil, the poor have it, and the rich don't want it?
Be truthful did you know the answer yourself or did you have to Google it or find out some other way?

"A Nasa spacecraft has detected neutral “alien” particles that come from beyond our solar system."
Their lightcraft may have blown up, during rematerialization. Still, that doesn’t (dark)matter now.
13:07 on 01/02/2012
well, neon is not a fundamental constituent of life...perhaps the author's thinking of nitrogen?
13:13 on 01/02/2012
I was reported in 'The Daily Mail'.

Quote ''HeartScot 6 hours ago ( 8:13 AM) I was reported in 'The Daily Mail'. ''
Why was you reported?
12:23 on 01/02/2012
This is an interesting report in technology terms. You begin with the realisation that the solar system is a lot older than my granny, we don't sit still but move around the universe and no doubt while we do that, we leave some of our debris behind and bump into other debris that didn't start here. So what we are learning is that our detection systems have improve enough to identify it, rather than anything new about the universe itself. As Ahmed Fred said, the Daily Mail reported.
12:19 on 01/02/2012
Could someone explain how they can tell that the the atoms are from outside our solar system, since oxygen, hydrogen and neon are naturally occuring elements here on earth? Have they got a "return address"?
13:09 on 01/02/2012
evidently the neutral charge on the particles has something to do with it
13:12 on 01/02/2012
At its simplest.

There is a known ration of these neutral atoms with our solar system. I take it that the ratio observed strongly suggested that these particles are not part of our solar sysytem and have come from deep space. Without more info, I can't be any more precise.
16:49 on 01/02/2012
I understood that all Helium atoms were neutral.
