Amy Winehouse's Inquest May Be Invalid, As Coroner Unqualified For Role

Amy Winehouse

The inquest into Amy Winehouse's death may be declared invalid after it was revealed the coroner in charge did not have the correct qualifications for the role.

In October, Suzanne Greenaway recorded a verdict of death by misadventure, stating the singer died as an "unintended consequence" of drinking too much alcohol.

It has now emerged that Greenaway resigned from her job just a month after completing the investigation into Winehouse's death because she did not meet the strict guidelines over the appointment of coroners.

According to the rules, Greenaway should have been a solicitor in the Law Society for at least five years, but she had only been part of the organisation for two-and-a-half.

She should also have served five years as a "qualified medical practitioner", but the Australian only qualified as a nurse in her native country.

It could mean that all 30 of the inquests she worked on, including Winehouse's, could be declared illegal - but officials insist this will only happen if the verdicts she recorded are challenged in the High Court, reports Britain's The Sun.

Greenaway's husband, Inner North London Coroner Dr Andrew Scott Reid, who appointed her to the role, tells the publication, "In November it became apparent I'd made an error in the appointment process. While I am confident that all of the inquests handled were done so correctly, I apologise if this matter causes distress." (

Good old nepotism again! Another corrupt 'jobs for the boys' scenario where there will be no consequences. If it had been one of us ordinary people doing this, you can guarantee we'd have been fined heavily or gone to prison. What another load of bo11ocks!

Like it makes a difference at all.
Other than to make someone a few bucks reporting on it.
Which is really all that matters.

The error Dr Reid made was not in the process; rather, in his judgment of appointing his wife.

Will this tragic mess never cease? Like in real life she spun out of control, it seems the same thing is happening to her death. She's dead, let it end now!

This is terrible. He appoints his wife. Not good. Not qualified. Not good. Could this autopsy have been compromised? People may not be aware of this, but whistleblower, Sean Hoare, who worked for News of the World, revealed that it was his job to get all the dope on celebrities literally. His job was to get stars caught in the act of taking drugs that he would supply. He most likely knew Amy. She was in those papers endless times and the papers made a lot of money on her. He died a mysterious death not long after his revelations. Amy was gone within a week after him.

What a silly waste of space. Yes, to some she could sing. She was a complete mess. Alcohol and drug abuse. It killed her. She is not coming back no matter who the coroner is.

The last part is the most damning, to be honest; her husband appointed her. Even if she does good work, that just sends the wrong message.

"Death by misadventure." That almost sounds fun.
