David Cameron Calls Labour MP Liam Byrne 'Baldermort'

Huffington Post UK   Dina Rickman First Posted: 1/02/2012 12:59 Updated: 1/02/2012 16:15

David Cameron might have been chastised by the speaker for his un-parliamentary language when he accused Ed Miliband of hypocrisy, but he managed to get away with calling bald Labour MP Liam Byrne "Baldermort".

However a Number 10 source later admitted the prime minister needed to be careful when using gags.

Cameron's put down came two weeks after he called Labour MP Dennis Skinner a dinosaur in PMQs: "It's good to see the honourable gentleman in such good form.

"I often say to my children 'no need to go to the national history museum to see a dinosaur, come to the House of Commons at about half past twelve'."

Cameron has previously got in trouble for his 'flashman' - the bully character in Tom Brown's schooldays - style put-downs. The prime minister was attacked as anti-feminist after he repeatedly urged a female Labour MP to "calm down dear."

It must be so much fun for William Hague at Cameron's cabinet meetings. PMQs is an even bigger joke now than it ever was. Cameron never answers a question, unless it's planted by a creepy little backbencher, and when his policies get attacked he resorts to Bullingdon Plan A; shout loud & insult the opposition. If he had a basket of bread rolls, he'd be throwing them along with his childish insults. I'm praying for the day when someone takes to their feet & punches his puffy red face. We don't have a PM, we have a bad PR manager with the tact & diplomacy of Frankie Boyle.

Trouble is, Cameron has such a lot of cheerleaders in the media, who think shouting insults and going red in the face is 'winning' the debate.

I did watch the display yesterday and I have to say he makes himself look like a petulant child. Now, if someone chooses to behave like that, then it is absolutely their business... BUT... not when you are the leader of a country!
A disgraceful show, unfortunately, the opposition have yet to come up with a credible opponent!

Does Dave Cameron think nobody has noticed his elaborate comb over. Those in glasshouses etc.

If he spent half as much time on policy as he did on PR he might actualy get something done. As it is, backbenchers know that if they push his buttons they can provoke a reaction which makes him look less and less like a distinguished leader.

Would prefer he spent his time trying and i mean trying to run this country, about time all the politicians in Westminster grew up. After watching some of the debates and PMQT sessions, they all behave like schoolkids and they are the best this country can come up? God help us all.

Is there any chance we could have both sides of the story please?
The sneers, jeers and snide remarks by all opposition members are particularly wearing.
If the Prime Minister is not entitled to free speech and opinion in the house of commons what chance the rest of us!
Respect has to work both ways!

Perhaps if Camaron were to really answer the questions instead of coming out with, what he thinks are, witty remarks then perhaps he would get more respect......

He has to remember it's Prime Ministers Questions not the Dave Comedy Show....

The Baldemorte incident did not occur during PMQ.
They take place on Wednesdays!
I did not find his comment funny- more descriptive!

Members of the opposition are not the leaders of the country. Cameron is supposed to be the leader and he demeans the position of prime Minister by his sneering and so called jokes.

he has no dignity and does not deserve respect. An awful man

Correct- Members of the opposition should show some respect for the elected Prime Minister- Who is the leader!
He responds to the sneering and so called jokes; as a leader.
Have you actually ever seen a broadcast from parliament?
Thought not!

Cameron is so funny, in a public schoolboy kind of way. Definitely not amusing as a so called leader of our country.

He is a nasty piece of work and his sneering will will be his downfall.

Damn, that's funny. No way a politician could get away with comparing an opponent to a movie villian here, unless the villian was Darth Vader. Then all the potential opponents would claim the title. LOL
