Despite his harsh words to some delusional auditionees on The X Factor, Gary Barlow turned out to be a big softie when it came to mentoring his acts and he has kept up his friendship with runner-up Marcus Collins - and his gran.

Housewife favourite Gary should have no worries if he ever fancies a cup of tea and a biscuit with the X Factor star as Marcus' nan is always happy to have a natter with the Take That singer.

Speaking to The Sun, Marcus said: "He came round for tea and kept quizzing all my family, trying to get the gossip.

"Him and my nan sat for hours talking. They could've chatted a glass eye to sleep, talking and talking for ages.

"I said 'The pair of yous, shut up, you're doing my head in!'"

However, Marcus shouldn't have to worry too much about losing his new mate to his gran as Gary is championing Marcus' career.

He recently told the Belfast Telegraph: "Gary's a man of his word, though, and when he says he wants to help me with my career, he means it. You only have to look at all the charity work he's done to see that he'll go the extra mile to help people. I can learn a lot from him."

Marcus, who became a member of boyband Eton Road in 2007 after the group competed in The X Factor in 2006, is now performing in the show's arena tour as a solo artist.

He said: "I've wanted this for so long, so I can't believe how quickly it's all gone.

"When I left Eton Road, I had to have the belief to go on, regardless of how many times I heard 'No'. Being a singer is all I've ever wanted to do, and I wasn't going to let a few rejections stop me."

Marcus Collins and his mentor are releasing their first single, and it's plagiarism at its worst. They copied the arrangements, styling and solos from French soul artist Ben L'Oncle Soul!
