Joey Barton's Tweets On John Terry Being Looked At By Attorney General

Joey Barton

Footballer Joey Barton could be in trouble with the Attorney General after posting a series of comments online about John Terry ahead of his trial for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder posted the remarks on Twitter yesterday after Terry was stripped of the England captaincy.

Barton aired his views then added: "I'll probably get a letter now from 'the powers that be.'

"If you're reading this don't bother........."

Terry denies the charge and will stand trial in July, only days after Euro 2012 finishes.

Barton later returned to the micro-blogging website and defended his comments on the grounds of free speech.

However a spokesman for Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC, said: "I can confirm the Tweets have been brought to our attention and have been viewed."

The Attorney General is the Government's senior law officer whose remit includes ensuring defendants facing criminal allegations receive a fair trial.

I'm lost with this racism thing. You can be awarded Black Footballer of the year, win MOBO awards. achievement awards for being a black person but you can't be a black idiot. That's racist. When does it become racist?? at wonderful? nice? average? silly? idiot? or where John Terry went? I don't get it

I bet you Joeys villiage is missing him! I am all for free speech but why has such a high legal department got involved in this? The british legal system has got more important things to worry about..Starting with that Clown Ken Clarke, the EU and immigration.

He sounds - and his girlfriend too - a bit, you know… one goalpost short of a pitch? Confusing deliberate possible contempt of court with 'freedom' of speech is a bit daft. Still, does he or she have a 'book' to sell, or something?

why are we bleating about "freedom of speech" when it is a concept honoured more in its breach than its observance? What we have in Britsh society is freedom to say wharever Guardian readers consider is acceptable at Highgate dinner parties.
For the rest of us mugs to say what we think is not worth the candle.

Well the jews own all the Media in the western world, along with what we eat, wear , fuel. among a mountain of other things, read this quick if its allowed on,they will own this as well, highgate parties are like the oscars etc, mainly Jewish Seminars.

The most surprising thing is that anyone actually reads his pearls of wisdom. I can't understand why he causes so much interest--he has nothing to say of importance and unfortunately he has little credibility. Just another footballer

Anthony Walker was a brilliant 18 year old British A-level student of African descent from Liverpool who was murdered with an ice axe by Michael Barton and his cousin Paul Taylor in an unprovoked racist attack. Anthony Walker died with the axe embedded in his head.

Prior to the attack, a hooded man in his late teen deliberately intimidated and racially abused Anthony Walker at a bus stop where he was waiting with his white girlfriend.

Anthony walker came from a stable, hard working, law-abiding, caring family comprising his mother, Gee Walker, his father Steve Walker and his two sisters and one brother. Just the sort of family one would think Britain should consider a model family and a credit to our broken community.

Are you suggesting Joey Barton had anything to do with the murder of Anthony Walker?

No, s/he's talking about rôle models. Easy really.

Don't know what the fuss is all about. Barton's tweets are effectively saying, let the courts sort it out!!!! The courts have a problem with that???

Which footballer has a brother who went to prison at age 17 for killing a black boy simply because the black boy was waiting at a bus stop with a white girl?

So this makes Joey Barton guilty, somehow?
08:29 PM on 02/05/2012
Anyone who can understand the English language, knows what Terry said on the pitch.
It has beeb turned into a circus by the delay and Sky blurring out the video of Terry making his remarks.
I saw it live and know what was said, so did every other viewer.
He will probably get off with it because he is English and not from Uruguay.

Difference being sewerez admitted the charges, didnt appeal the ban and apologised, Terry is vehemently denying the charge, has not been found guilty of anything (yet).

John Terry has been charged with an offence and will stand trial later this year.

In England after a person has been charged no publishing or reporting about the case is allowed.

Joey Barton is a QPR player who was on the pitch at the time of the alleged incident and is likely to be called as a witness.

This is about prejudicing the the trial of a man who is innocent until proven guilty.

I'm no fan of Terry or Barton, but I think Barton is wrong.

As the saying goes, the law is an a**. These laws were drafted before the internet. News about this is all over the web and is being reported on the major news channels in the US, Canada and Australia.

Head in the sand.

He criticised the FA over the handling of the Terry affair.Stating that the case should have been treated the same way as the Suarez one and not have been allowed to be so drawn out. What's wrong with that? Why can't the FA take criticism?
08:27 PM on 02/05/2012
Here is the difference: In the case of Suarez, members of the public did not make formal complaint or initiate proceedings; hence no Police action was taken.
In the other case, the public made formal complaint which the Police was legally obliged to act on.
Hope this clarifies it for you.
08:31 PM on 02/05/2012
Oh, I should mention that it is the defendant's legal rep that requested that the case be put forward to July thus causing it to be so drawn out and NOT the prosecutor.
You obviously have not been following this case very well.

These contempt proceedings are making us an international joke. The John Terry case is being extensively reported in the US. Like the Super-injunctions, they are an exercise in futility. Dominic Grieve should go investigate the banks.

The banks are mainly run by jews, the name they hate being put about on here, any factual stuff is taken off by the HP police, I wonder who owns this rag, take 3 guesses

he tweets his views and may face court, yet hundreds make comments on here?
