'Blade Runner' Sequel: Harrison Ford Set To Star?

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford could be set to reprise his Blade Runner role.

The actor played the lead character of Rick Deckard in the 1982 sci-fi film and now Twitch reports that he is in early talks about possibly joining the sequel.

It was already known that Blade Runner director Ridley Scott would be at the helm of the follow-up, but Ford, who is now 70, was not expected to be part of the movie.

Last year Alcon Entertainment's Andrew Kosove suggested that the film would be a complete reboot, with a new story and a new cast.

"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting," he told The LA Times.

However, following the news that Ford is showing an interest, there is speculation that the movie might actually be a direct prequel or sequel to the cult film.

I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships off the shoulder of Orion. C-Beams glittering in the darkness near the Tanhauser Gate. All these moments will be lost in time ... like tears .... in rain.

As much as I am leery of adding to the greatest sci fi movie there ever was, I dont think this will be an easy sell if Harrison Ford is not in it in some capacity. The movie was about Deckard and his life essentially and any incarnation of this movie without him will be empty and not accepted by the hoards of Blade Runner fans out there. And what about Sean Young? Where did this romance go? Did she live?
Where is PK Dick when we need him?

Ridley Ridley, Ridley!! Don't do it! Ford has had far too many retreads already and his dyed-in-the-wool Patriot Games' long-suffering wooden-faced schtick is well past its retirement date.
Use Rutger Hauer, who played the alpha-android, who said, 'I always wanted to meet my creator,' before crushing his head. I'm sick I know, but I loved that!
Phil Dick has many unfilmed stories: 'A Scanner Darkly' is crying out for a mega-production. But Harrison? Noo-o-o!! Don't do it.

As much as I like Blade Runner, I hope the new movie, whether a sequel, prequel, or remake, Is more true to the book. I especially hope it includes the 'Mercerism' subplot.

BR2 will answer all of the question left open by BR. I like the open questions. If Ford stars in a prequel then we can be pretty sure he was a replicant.

Please stop the madness.

Now if anyone feels like making sequels - Please feel free to remake Matrix 2 and 3. Contact me if you need any ideas to not make them stink. I have been thinking about this since seeing the Matrix 2 and 3.

Ugh...since you started it, I'll respond to "The Matrix" portion of your comment. (Incoming Opinion Alert!!)

I think they made THE ONLY sequels that COULD be made for The Matrix. I realize a lot of people weren't happy with the second half being broken up into 2 parts, but there was nothing else to be done. Once we knew "What the Matrix was" there wasn't really anywhere else to go.

In short...some movies do NOT need sequels. Imagine "Princess Bride 2", or "A Christmas Story 2"...etc.

That being said, if there IS going to be a BR sequel, having Ridley Scott at the helm is the only way to fly. I hope he still has the chops.

Disagree. I agree that the Matrix line has to end way it keep. It just could take a much different path to get there.

I would prefer BR be written by someone else so it would be easier to ignore. I just do not see any value in extending the story. It is complete story.

Please, please, PLEASE just NO!!!
