Buggy With Baby In It Rolls Onto Melbourne Train Tracks (VIDEO)

This is the terrifying moment a buggy rolls off a platform and onto the train tracks at a Melbourne station.

Mercifully, no trains were passing and the baby escaped with just a bump on his head and bruising to his face, the Sun said.

CCTV footage shows the pram rolling away from the mother, while an oblivious commuter checking his mobile phone strolls past.

The buggy then tips over the edge, with the five-month-old’s terrified mother leaping onto the tracks after it.

Metro Rail spokesman Daniel Hoare told Sky News: “It happened so quickly this incident. It just shows that you can’t look away from a pram.”

The September 2011 incident is believed to be one of three involving prams rolling off platforms last year, the Telegraph reported.

An identical accident in 2009 means new platforms are designed to slope away from the tracks.

And I hope people notice
Am I correct that for one person the mobile phone was far more important
than possible tragedy

It could be that the guy with the phone had no clue what was going on. I don't think he was ignoring responsibility, I think he was just unaware of what had happened. I don't think his brain had time to process "omg, baby on the train tracks."

Why don't they put a curb up between the platform and the tracks? That way, if the stroller starts to roll away it can be stopped before it hits the tracks. Seems too easy so I'm sure there is some reason why it wouldn't work.

Seems like the profit of no dead babies would be enough. Oh well.

So paint it bright yellow or orange with red polkadots on it and then put signs that say "watch your step." Still seems better than having a baby roll onto the tracks.
