Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter Actor, Says Lib Dems Have Lost Their Magic

Daniel Radcliffe: Lib Dems Have Lost Their Magic

Daniel Radcliffe has become the latest Lib Dem celebrity supporter to turn his back on the party, announcing he is likely to vote Labour at the next election.

In an interview with Attitude magazine, he said Clegg had become a "whipping boy".

"It seems to me that he has been totally used by the Tories - anything they don't want badly reflected on them they reflect on to him," he told the magazine.

The Harry Potter actor's defection follows that of fellow actor Colin Firth, who turned his back on the party following their u-turn over tuition fees.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has impressed, with Radcliffe saying: "From what I've seen of Ed Miliband, I really like him and he speaks for what I believe in. I think he's genuine, genuinely leftwing, and will act as such if he gets in."

Radcliffe also spoke out on the issue of gay marriage, saying everyone should show their support, regardless of their sexuality.

"The ultimate reason gay marriage should be legalised everywhere is because, as a kid, you look to your mum and dad and they're married; then you look at the gay couple who've been together for the same amount of time, but because they can¹t get married their relationship doesn't seem the same.

"Yes, gay marriage is about symbolically blessing a relationship, but the larger issue is about transmitting a fundamental message about equality. Gay people should have equality in law everywhere.

"If you grow up as a young gay man knowing you don't have the same opportunities as everyone else you're going to feel victimised and massive prejudice towards you," he told the magazine.

Following his show of support for Labour Daniel Radcliffe is 33/1 with Ladbrokes to stand as the party's leader before 2050.
