David Miliband: Soap Opera Between Me And Brother Ed Is Over

David Miliband

David Miliband has promised the "soap opera" between him and his brother Ed will not return, as he spoke out about how to tackle youth unemployment.

The elder Miliband brother, who left frontline politics when Ed beat him to become Labour leader in September 2010, said on Monday morning he would stay on the backbenches:

"I think I was right to say 'Look, I've lost the leadership election'", he said.

“I promise you the soap opera is not back and it’s certainly not back for daily episodes with me in the frontline politics. I think that the really important thing is that the country sees that the Labour party is renewing itself, which it is under Ed’s leadership; that’s it’s able to have real discussion about the future of the country; and that it addresses these big issues because an issue like youth unemployment is a sort of thing that brings all the of us into politics in the first place."

He defended his brother's leadership, saying he had been "elected to fight the next election" and there was not going to be a new leadership contest.

"I think he’s going to fight the next election with real courage and conviction and I think it’s up to all of us to make sure he wins the next election and serves as prime minister.”

Miliband, who will launch an ACEVO report on youth unemployment later today said he would suggest young people in work should mentor their unemployed peers.

“We’ve said, we’re going to say today, that any young person in work for over a year should mentor a young person that is out of work for over a year because this problem is really chronic now: we’ve got one and a half million people who are unemployed, 250,000 of them unemployed for over a year and a further 200,000 unemployed for over six months and this is something that we can tackle," he told BBC News on Monday morning.

When I said That some labours are punching Ed milliband in the stomach while David c is punching him in the head , I mean the supporters of David Milliband who are hungry for cabinet posts ,they don't ncessarily like David Milliband who probably is their tro..horse. These people believe they own the party. Labour paty has taken one step forward but the would rather it take 10 steps backward to accomodate their personal ambtion.
We waant passionate politicians not the pretty boys who are too full of themselves.

People say the socialists are more intelligent, they change their tunes i thought they were CP mad loonies and anarchist s who can spell better than I can.

The best man that can lead the party now is not David Milliband. It is a bit like having a popular head master back after he has passed his sell by date.

Various commentators mention Oxford. Oxford isn't just made up of Camerons and Milibands, there are ordinary mortals there too, don't jump I did not go to Oxford, just saying because I know some very nice ordinary people who did.

The brothers grim don't make the grade, neither are leader material, certainly not statesmen. We need someone fresh, providing they're not like Blair, don't want one of those again!

we need no-one "fresh" we need thinkers and doers who have the majority's welfare foremost in their conscience, no-one wants a socialist state but the present state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue, theres enough suffer in this country without having our governments impose even more on the people, we're being treat as a bottomless pit of cash and the majority are scraping the barrel presently, for what, so creeps like this can hide dough in offshore accounts. I'm no politician but if I could do no better than these then I'd pack it in, but they just keep picking up the wages while laughing at this country's workforce, its a game to them but they're playing it with peoples lives and its not been fun for a long long time.

You must have said a disparaging word!

Did you say a pair of fcing wats?
19:12 on 06/02/2012
Think David Miliband along with his brother and predecessors. must be living on another planet, as still proof of lots of mess they left behind from labour`s dodgy and faulty days! Also have to add with the sillyband brothers, think if they had a tug of war, the rope would definitely split, ensuring they`d all fall down!
19:19 on 06/02/2012
probably get killed in the rush to cut the rope
19:45 on 06/02/2012
Think they`ve given themselves enough rope!!
19:10 on 06/02/2012
While you have the House of Commons peopled by the upper class this what will happen!
19:14 on 06/02/2012
A few dozen more like Dennis Skinner would not do amiss

he is at least true to himself

forget his politics
18:32 on 06/02/2012

19:12 on 06/02/2012

21:17 on 06/02/2012

Ed Milliband, David Milliband both into a soap

Cameron and Osborne similarly so

the common thread

ALL FOUR WERE A PRODUCT OF UNIVERSITY EDUCATION

another thing in common OXFORD UNIVERSITY

no wonder they are all useless and out of touch

we need a good drama to sort this rubbish out
19:14 on 06/02/2012
Positive there will be a few on the way!

What kind of drama do we need?
18:09 on 06/02/2012
His brother is to busy amassing a fortune, and then finding ways of avoiding taxes on it.
19:56 on 06/02/2012
they already have the ways worked out and a plan to scupper any closures for them
18:00 on 06/02/2012
these politicians are what universities generate

most front becnh MP's are and that is whiy we have soaps and not dramas

Couple of school boys really, neither would look out of place in short pants.Does the Labour party really believe either of these boys are ready, even remotely ready, to lead our country? I am no fan of Labour but I do believe we need a strong opposition party to hold the Govt to account. An opposition party that can produce credible alternative policies and make us feel they are actually electable so that we have a choice. At present Ed Milliband is engrossed in decrying the Coalition policies, aided and abetted by the rottweiler of politics Ed Balls, with neither of them offering up any viable alternative ideas. Milliband because he doesn't have the wherewithall to do so and Balls because, well that's just the way he is; destructive rather than Constructive. The two Milliband boys are just not up to the job, they are far away from ever being considered political "big hitters" and, if they really loved their party they would stop their thinly veiled sniping at each other and pass the baton of leadership to someone who can handle it. I just don't know who that could be at present.

two Oxford Unveesity schoolboys actually

never the product of a real life
