James Corden's Parents Curbed His 'Brattish' Behaviour

'My Parents Prayed For Me'

Comedian James Corden's life was turned around by hugs, tears and prayers with his parents following his brattish behaviour four years ago.

The 33-year-old stunned onlookers at the 2008 BAFTA ceremony when he picked up two awards for Gavin & Stacey but blasted judges for failing to nominate the show for Best Comedy.

In a heart-to-heart with Kirsty Young on BBC Radio 4 Desert Island Discs, Corden admits fame went to his head and his partying lifestyle had left him feeling lost.

But he reveals his religious parents Malcolm and Margaret helped him when they came to visit his Primrose Hill flat in north London.

He says: "I felt embarrassment that they were seeing me like this, so embarrassed about so many things - about the way I'd behaved or acted at points over that seven or eight-month period."

His dad went over to him and gave him a hug, making him cry before his parents said a prayer for him.

Since his parents' intervention, Corden has proposed to his girlfriend Julia Carey, lost five stone and starred in the National Theatre production of One Man, Two Guvnors, which is set to transfer to Broadway.
