Royal Cornwall Hospital Ward Closed And Staff Suspended After Patient Care Complaint

Hospital Ward Closed Following Patient Care Complaint

Staff have been suspended and a hospital ward closed following a complaint about patient care, a hospital in Cornwall said on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust told Huffington Post UK "some staff members" had been suspended the Wheal Agar ward, which treats elderly people, had been closed "a couple of days" after receiving the initial complaint.

A spokesperson denied the move was unusual, saying: "We are currently investigating an allegation about a specific patient's care on one of our wards at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

"As a matter of routine we take every concern raised seriously and accordingly in this instance we are exploring the matter fully.

"We can confirm staff have been suspended - this is a neutral act. The ward has been temporarily closed and any new patients will continue to be able to receive care and treatment within our hospitals services."

But health campaigners in Cornwall told the BBC they were worried about the move. Health Initiative Cornwall's Graham Website said the group are "especially concerned to lose the use of a ward at a time when beds at the hospital are under pressure".

David and Samantha Cameron's daughter Florence was born at the Princess Alexandra Maternity Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
