German president Christian Wulff has resigned following a financial scandal that saw parliament strip the disgraced politician of his immunity.
Allegations that Wulff received cash in return for political favours, as well accepting free holidays and failing to declare financial gifts, were revealed in December.
Prior to the announcing of his departure, Wulff had said he would stay in parliment and fight to clear his name.
