Whitney Houston Funeral: Aretha Franklin Forced To Miss Funeral Due To Illness

Aretha Franklin Misses Funeral

Aretha Franklin has been forced to pull out of performing at Whitney Houston's funeral in New Jersey due to health issues.

Longtime family friend Franklin was due to pay her last respects to the late superstar and perform the singer's classic The Greatest Love of All at the New Hope Baptist Church in Houston's native Newark, where a memorial service is currently taking place.

But the Queen of Soul had to cancel her plans after suffering foot and leg problems following her concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall on Friday 17 Feb.

In a statement, she says, "Regretfully I cannot attend (Houston)'s funeral... I was up until 4am with leg spasms... My heart goes out to Cissy, Bobbi Kristina, Dionne (Warwick) and the rest of the family."

The Queen of Soul admits she had "every intention of being there", but has been advised she needs to keep her leg "elevated" in order to be able to perform her second show at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday 18Feb
