Muppets Join Oscar Presenters - Who Else?

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are to present at the Oscars, it has been announced.

The power couple - currently back on the big screen in The Muppets - are set to make their fifth appearance at the Academy Awards, where they join the stellar list of presenters including Halle Berry, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Tom Hanks and Angelina Jolie.

Bradley Cooper, Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovovich, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lopez, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig are also expected to hand out gongs at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre on February 26.

Miss Piggy previously hinted that she may boycott this year's ceremony, because of the Academy's "refusal to recognise pigs as actors", despite The Muppets winning a nomination for best original song with Bret McKenzie's Man Or Muppet.

"I don't know (if I will go). It's wonderful to be nominated in the Best Song category, even if it wasn't a song I sang. As for going to the Oscars, it's hard to feel right about going to an event like that where you're not really welcome," she said.

Martin Scorsese's family-friendly fantasy Hugo leads the Oscar nominations with 11 nods, followed closely by silent movie The Artist.

Steven Spielberg's War Horse and Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris are also up for various awards, while Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Gary Oldman has clinched his first Oscar nod.
