Brit Awards 2012: Adele Apologises For Swearing, Says It Was Aimed At 'The Suits'

Adele has apologised for sticking her middle finger up at the Brit Awards crowd as her Awards acceptance speech for Best British Album was cut short. And the singer clarified that the insult "was meant for the suits at the Brits, not her fans".

Brits host James Corden was forced to stop the Someone Like You singer mid-speech, just as she began to thank all those who had helped her with her record-breaking album, in order to allow Blur to kick off their show-closing set.

Speaking afterwards, soul star Adele said: "I'd like to say I got cut off and I did the middle finger, but it was for the suits at the Brits that cut me off, not my fans.

"I'm sorry if I offended anyone, the suits offended me. I'd like to take the chance now, which I didn't get earlier, to thank all of my fans."

Meanwhile, Gavin and Stacey's Corden has also expressed his regret over the incident.

Speaking after the show on ITV2, Corden admitted: "I don't understand quite why I was made to [cut her short]."

He continued: "I was having the best night of my life and then I had to cut Adele off before she's even had chance to say thank you. She's the biggest star in the world. I don't understand what happened but I'm upset about it."

Visibly upset, Corden added: "Blur played for 11 minutes and she didn't get chance to say thank you once."

Despite the glitch, Adele was in high-spirits as she spoke to journalists after picking up her Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and Best British Album for 21.

Commenting on the success of her second album, which has now sold over 20m copies worldwide, the London-born star said: "It just goes over my head really. It's phenomenal the success of this album… it carried on without me even when my voice stopped."

Waving and shouting "have a good night" as she left the press conference, the star said: "I'm off to a party - even if I can't get drunk because of my voice."

once again i say, dump the hosts for award shows

just trot out the presenters

the host only wastes time that should be better spent for the recipients to give their speeches

or those suits could just give out the big awards at the beginning but of course that would mean nobody would buy advertising after that

suits suits suits.....

She is starting to come off as sleezy and ill bread.
15:15 on 23/02/2012
Do you mean ill bred ? From what I can gather her mother brought her up alone in quite a rough part of London , given the circumstances I think she has done a good job and many people would be proud to have such a daughter. You must have suffered dreadfully at the antics of bands such as the Sex Pistols!

There is an article in the Mail on the Brits written by a couple of reporters Toshoff and Boss , it vilifies the ceremony and oozes vitriol and contempt at Adele stating she is getting to big for her sparkly Louboutins, if there is one thing in this Nation which illustrates the divisions between us and them is the hatred that the so called upper classes feel for someone who has earned money by work and talent, Millions of people enjoy her singing and have purchased her records, She earned the opportunity to thank them in an acceptance speech, full stop. Having been cut off after a couple of seconds was spectacularily crass and rude. She was a hell of lot more restrained than I would have been given the circumstances.

Adele seems to be taking every opportunity to show that she has no class whatsoever.

Just sing Adele!

For Adele some of the comments include "People are so uptight over nothing. It's just a finger"
"They shouldnt have cut her speech in the first place"
Now lets close our eyes and imagine if this had be Rihanna, Beyonce or Alicia Keys.......these comments would not have been so kind I guarantee you that....
As I have said before most people are not aware of their biases.
Truth is this was classless and there is absolutely no excuse for it full stop.

What's the point of having an awards show if you cut the time of a best-selling popular artist like Adele? She earned the right to speak and should be allowed to thank her fans, etc. The Brit Awards should be apologizing to her!
19:26 on 22/02/2012
If Corden was any use he could have brought it to a finish with a joke instead of blaming those who foolishly employed him a host.

said it before and i'll say it again

no need for a host for an awards show
they just get in the way and use up time

bring out presenters and start presenting
