A man has been arrested after his partner went to a neighbour's house for help after being stabbed in the stomach, according to police.
At 7.40am today, the woman, aged in her 40s, left the property in Church End Lane, Reading, Berkshire, and knocked on a neighbouring house.
Thames Valley Police was alerted and found the woman with serious abdominal injuries and an injured man suffering breathing difficulties.
A force spokesman said: "Officers were called to a property in Church End Lane at around 7.40am today (26/1) after a woman, believed to be in her 40s, knocked on a neighbouring house and asked for help after receiving injuries.
"Officers attended and found a man in her property, believed to be her partner, who was also injured and he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
"Both the victim and the arrested man have been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for treatment.
"The woman has serious abdominal injuries and the man is being treated for breathing complications."
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Healey, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are clearly in the very early stages of our investigation and are working hard to understand what has happened.
"At this time we believe that some form of dispute has taken place inside the property involving the two people currently detained in hospital.
"There is a large police presence in this area of Tilehurst at this time and the scene has been cordoned off whilst we conduct our inquiries."
