Eric Joyce: I Don't Deserve Compassion

Eric Joyce Takes To Twitter, Says 'I Don't Deserve Compassion'

Exiled Labour MP Eric Joyce has used Twitter to give his first public comments about the charges he faces in connection with the alleged headbutting assault on Tory MP Stuart Andrew in the Strangers Bar of the Commons last week.

The MP for Falkirk will face immense pressure to stand down from the Commons if he is convicted with the three charges of assault he will have to answer on the 7th of March before magistrates.

In a reply to the Tory MP Nadine Dorries, who asked publicly whether Joyce was okay, Joyce replied:

Joyce was suspended from the Labour party whip after being arrested late last Wednesday night. Various Westminster sources have told HuffPost UK that they are worried about his mental health.

"The trouble with Eric was that he was a loner," one Labour MP told HuffPost UK. "In this place, it doesn't do you any good to be a loner. Unless you've got that support network around you, people who've got your back, it's hard to see this sort of thing coming. Eric didn't have that."

The MP has been warned by his constituency association that they would expect him to "do the right thing" if he were convicted of the three charges of common assault he faces.

Joyce's Twitter has been silent since the alleged assaults in Strangers Bar in the Commons last Wednesday night. But on Monday evening he retweeted a message from the broadcaster Sarfraz Monzoor and commented on a BBC TV Show.
