Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills Axed From Drivetime Show, Replaced By Greg James

Scott Mills has lost his Radio 1 drivetime show after almost eight years.

Mills will be replaced by Greg James from April 2. However, he won't be leaving the station altogether as he'll step in to take James' old show from 1pm to 4pm.

In a statement on the BBC's official site James said: "My dream job just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to get going with the new show!"

However, there was no word from Mills on the job swap.

The news is part of a wider announcement made by new Radio 1 & 1Xtra Controller, Ben Cooper, about changes to the station today.

Former T4 presenter Jameela Jamil will now host the Radio 1 Request Show, which will be now broadcast on Sunday’s from 7-9pm, and Gemma Cairney will be taking over the weekend breakfast show 7-10am, moving over from sister station, 1Xtra where she has been presenting the afternoon show since January 2011.

Meanwhile, Edith Bowman moves to a midweek slot, becoming the host of Radio 1’s Review Show on Tuesdays, 9-10pm.

In the statement Cooper said:

"These are exciting times at Radio 1 & 1Xtra. The latest changes are about attracting even more young listeners by bringing in new and fresh talent to the stations. At the end of last year we announced changes to the specialist music line-up, so I’m really looking forward to hearing the new line up in full when we launch in April."

Scott Mills is wonderful, and a good human being, as evidenced by the uncomplaining undiva-ish way he made the move to the earlier slot

I like Scott Mills but he's past his sell-by date. But for God's sake when are they going to get rid of Chris Moyles...? Boring and smug. They're both turning into Smashy and Nicey. To be honest Greg James is not much better, zzzzzz. Radio 1 needs an injection of northern accents and they need to stop alienating listeners with their cosy-clubs and constant name-dropping.

I don't listen to the radio much any more, but listening to Scott Mills while stuck in rush hour traffic always made the time pass quicker. Same goes for when he used to cover Chris Moyles in the morning on my way to uni. I don't even know (or care) who Greg James is.

Sorry? Who are Scott Mills and Greg James (and why should I care)?

Scott Mills is one of the main reasons for listening to Radio1. Greg James? Sorry but his inane banter would send most people to sleep on their way home. Yet another DJ who thinks that talking about himself is somehow entertaining. I have switched his show off so many times because he can be so cringy it really is embarrassing to listen to. I despair ...

Well Radio 1 as lost me as a listener. I used to love listening to Scott on the way home from work, him and Beccy always made me laugh. I can't stand Greg James, I find him boring and quite irritating. Looks like I will be listening to local radio with they ads every 10 minutes.

And what about the wonder years. People love them driving home on a Friday night.

sorry but greg james is not that great a dj. it's ageism i think.. scott mills has more talent than james and ben cooper who rose up through radio one and i hoped would see what a great legacy is now destroying the radio one show. sounds like it is going to try and axe sister station if dj's moving from there so i see radio one on it's way down the pan. if other popular dj's go it will be devastating. by the way i am not a youngster i'll be 50 this year and am not ready to listen to the drivell on radio 2

I don't care who they're replacing just as long as they don't give Vernon Kay or Sara Cox anymore airtime!!

In what we call ''real life'' I have never known anyone between the ages of 18 and 25 who is single, and not a parent to have any interest in or contact with children between the ages of zilch and 15 except their siblings and casual contact through family and friends. In fact people between the ages of 18 and 25 are cut off from other age groups living in a cultural bubble. Fine.

So, how is it, that this age group are the most appropriate age group to present radio and TV program aimed at zilch to sixteen year-olds?

I suppose it is the sexualization of children's culture. What else could it be?

Greg Mills and Scott James are just the same person.

Can't they ditch one and get someone a bit more interesting on?

Radio One should stop chasing listeners and get it's edge back, the station is tired, really tired.

Reminds me of the DLT and Steve Wright days, they need a complete clearout.

Mills, James, Moyles (especially Moyles) I mean what do these people have in common with the youth of today?
