Oscar champion Jean Dujardin was treated to a hero's welcome when he touched down in Paris, France on Tuesday and was mobbed by fans at the airport.

The charismatic French star has been the toast of the Hollywood awards season for his starring role in silent movie The Artist, and completed his collection of industry accolades by taking home the Best Actor Academy Award at Sunday's ceremony.

Dujardin received the superstar treatment when he returned to his homeland's Charles de Gaulle Airport with his Oscar in hand and was greeted by hordes of cheering fans.

The actor had to be surrounded by dozens of Parisian police officers as the crowd fought for a glimpse of the grinning star, who was quickly whisked away in a waiting car.
